LuX Baltimore is opening it's doors for the first time, and to celebrate there will be an open bar from 9:00 to 10:00.

The event will be dj'd by the "world's third most famous DJ" DJ Scribble

Cover's just $10 if you say you're with Baltimore Bar Crawl.

The Baltimore Bar Crawl crew showed up at LuX about 15 minutes before the grand opening and waited in the foyer for the club to open. At 9 sharp we were allowed upstairs to the club.

The first thing that strikes you about LuX is the interesting size of the club itself. It is a very narrow space but extends incredibly far back, so that there is plenty of space. At the top of the stairs is a ramp that borders the dance floor as well as leading up to the main bar. There is another bar behind you as you reach the top of the stairs to serve the dance floor. The DJ booth is positioned between the dance floor and the main bar area. Upon reaching the main bar area we were quickly served the first drinks of the evening as we surveyed the rear area of the club. Across from the lengthy bar is the obligatory roped off VIP section for bottle service.

The only issue with this layout was that once the club began to fill, the majority of the crowd converged between the bar and the VIP section, and because of the already narrow space, once a group stood next to the bar and another next to the VIP section, there was barely room for a person to make their way through.

The first hour of open bar (at least for bottled beer and rail liquor mixed drinks) passed rather uneventfully, and the dance floor remained mostly empty until around 10:30 or later. And even then for the next while it was reminiscent of a middle school dance. Guys in groups and girls in groups and no one dancing save for a few adventurous girls in the corner of the dance floor. Around 11 the evening started to pick up, because sometimes it takes people a few drinks to convince them it is a good idea to start to populate the dance floor. At 10 or so the downstairs was opened up, and it remained mostly empty for most of the night. There is a large open area with seats against the walls, and then another bar in the back, surrounded by more VIP seating. The main purpose we found for the downstairs was that it was actually far easier to run downstairs to grab a drink at the downstairs bar than it was to wait in line upstairs. We checked to see how much bottle service was and for a bottle of Van Gogh Espresso the going rate was $175. The club continued to pick up steam as the night progressed, but our fearless leader had us leave at about midnight, before the headlining DJ Skribble arrived. His reasoning was that the club was not going to have a superstar DJ every week and we should try to keep our initial experience at LuX as representative of a regular night at LuX as possible. That said, I was having a ball and would have loved to have stayed all night. I had not been to a club in about 3 years and LuX did a great job of reminding me why I used to go out to them 2-3 nights a week. I will definitely be making my way back to LuX soon.
